When I was fifteen years old I took a chance on Galaxie 500’s ‘On Fire’, having wandered into the aftermath of their Rough Trade Neal’s Yard instore during my work lunch-break. I’d not heard of the band but had a nice chat with the singer Dean, one which touched upon The Cure and the Bunnymen. I sloped back to work with the album in its bag, unaware that Wareham would become my favourite singer-songwriter and lyricist for the next three decades.
